I’d have to dodge its tentacle strikes, move around acid pits, and leap off of platforms as it knocked them down one by one - all while avoiding the additional enemies it spawned and nailing the weak spot in its mouth. I found myself surrounded by enemies quickly, taking massive damage as I tried to pick them off with pinpoint accuracy and avoid their attacks with slow evasive rolls.Īfter locking down the flow of combat, I successfully made it to the demo’s boss: an ugly floating head at the center of a circular stone arena. Though of course, that didn’t mean my demo was a cakewalk. There’s a lot of power and weight to my shots, which feel like they absolutely obliterate enemies on kill. Gunslinger acted as a great introduction to the basics, highlighting how strong the shooting feels here. Pressing the left bumper would target it toward nearby enemies, but I could also do some button-holding to aim the shot myself before letting loose. I’d get an introduction to some of the game’s new systems when trying out my Gunslinger’s special ability, a multi-shot “fan the hammer” type move similar to Overwatch’s Cassidy. Naturally, this had me focused mostly on accurate handgun shots as I popped flying enemies out of midair. I saw that first-hand when I began my demo as the more balanced Gunslinger class. While each archetype is still built around a specific set of weapons, they come loaded with more skills and perks that are gradually unlocked through a progression system. Remnant 2 continues all of that, but the big change this time is in how it’s handling character classes. The difference, though, is that the focus is on gunplay rather than close-ranged melee combat. You’ve got your high-difficulty, bonfire-like checkpoints, evasion rolls, and enormous bosses on the other side of foggy doors. The gear of the Hunter Class caters to a patient playstyle for players wanting to take their time landing headshots and disposing of enemies in just a few shots.Like its predecessor, Remnant 2 is a third-person shooter that draws inspiration from the Soulslike genre. The weapon fires relatively fast so getting swarmed isn't an issue. The Hunting Rifle has an innate 10 percent Critical Hit Chance and is best used at long range. One piece increases the damage of each by five percent, two pieces by 10 percent, and three pieces by 20 percent. Additionally, for each piece equipped there is an increase in Ranged and Weakspot Damage. The armor set bonus reduces the weapon spread of guns by 20 percent. The Hunter Set has the lowest defense of the three starting sets. This makes it easier to stay undetected and take the time to line up headshots from a distance. Shadow Walker decreases enemy awareness by 1.5 percent for each point, for a maximum of 30 percent. Hunter's Mark highlights enemies within 35 meters and all enemies marked have a 10 percent extra chance to land a Critical Hit. The Hunter Class begins with the Hunter Set, Hunting Rifle, Repeater Pistol, Scrap Sword, Hunter's Mark Weapon Mod, and the Shadow Walker trait. The circle is only 2.3 meters but having the ability to heal shouldn't be underestimated. Mender's Aura has two charges and creates a circle of healing that regenerates 10 HP every second for 10 seconds. Each point in Spirit increases the rate that Mod Power is generated by 1.25 percent, for a maximum of 25 percent Mod Power Generation. The Ex-Cultist Class begins with the Cultist Set, Coach Gun, Repeater Pistol, Scrap Hatchet, Mender's Aura weapon mod, and the Spirit trait. This makes closing up with the starting Shotgun easy as players can tank more damage. One piece is 7.5 percent, two pieces are 15 percent, and three pieces are 30 percent. It also increases the damage dealt by the wearer in that range by different amounts based on how much of the armor they wear. The armor set bonus also decreases any damage the player receives by 15 percent when wearing it while within five meters of that source of damage. The Scrapper is the close-ranged class and possesses the armor with the highest defense of the three.
